Informatic Support for the Belgian Scientific Researchers in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
BEN is the Belgian node of the EMBnet. It provides to scientific researchers in Belgium, both academic and industrial, an access to updated databanks with nucleic acid and protein sequences, as well as the necessary software to search these databanks and perform various sequence analysis tasks. BEN is a joint initiative of the ULB and the VUB. It is financially supported by the Belgian Federal Science Policy Office (Belspo). The computers of BEN are located at the BFUCC and its office is located at the DBM. Access to BEN for academic users has been greatly facilitated by the installation of BELNET. BEN has a priviliged partnership with two other Belspo sponsored projects, BeBIF, the Belgian node of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), and the Belgian Co-ordinated Collections of Micro-organisms (BCCM).
