4 July, 2008 BEN obtains from the Belgian Science Policy an extension of its financing till end 2009. November 2007 BEN upgrades its MRS server to version 3. November 7, 2007 BEN's contract with the Belgian Science Policy is operationally extended till 30 June 2008, awaiting definitive renewal. July 2007 BEN stops providing its users Email addresses and modem/ISDN access to the Internet, focusing instead on purely bioinformatic services. The mailing lists BEN-News (for announcing new issues of "BEN News") and BBClist (which BEN maintains for the participants at the Benelux Bioinformatics Conferences) are transferred to the MailMan server of the Belgian Biodiversity Information Facility. April 2007 BEN replaces the distribution of its newsletter "BEN News" on paper by electronic publication. March 19, 2007 BEN organizes a one time special course on MRS September 2006 EMBOSS at BEN upgraded to version 4. July 2006 BEN begins replacing its main databank search tool SRS by MRS. May 2006 BEN makes its WWW services secure using OpenSSL. December 6, 2005 BEN organizes for the first time an advanced course on "Perl". November 9, 2005 BEN switches its services to a new hardware (a cluster of Bi-Opteron AMD 246's under Linux). At the same occasion its SRS server is upgraded to version 8.1, with a concept-oriented user interface, and EMBOSS is upgraded to version 3.0. April 14-15, 2005 For its sixth edition the BBC is organized by the U. of Ghent and becomes "Benelux Bioinformaticians Conference". BEN presents a poster and a stand. March 2005 BEN's contract with the Belgian Science Policy is renewed for a three year's period.
