Bolstered by the last year success, the second edition of the Bioinformatic System Management Workshop (BSMW05)
will be organized by the Belgian EMBnet Node, during September 2005.
The course will take place in the computer room of the Institut de Biologie et de Médecine Moléculaires (IBMM)
of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, located on the Gosselies area known as "Aeropole”, close to Charleroi.

Program
- Basic installation of the operating system on a naked PC
- Installation of network utilities (Apache server, etc.)
- Installation and configuration of the EMBOSS bioinformatics sequence analysis package
- Installation and configuration of a basic SRS 7 server
- Installation under SRS 7 of a nominal set of databanks (part of EMBL, Swissprot, Prosite, etc.)
- Installation of the wEMBOSS interface to the EMBOSS software
- A set of user cases to be solved by the participants
General Information
Participation fee is of 200 € per person. This fee covers the coffee breaks and lunches.
Travel and accommodations are self-paid by the participants. The IBMM building, in which the workshop will be held,
is very close to the Charleroi-Brussels-South airport, the national hub of the RyanAir Company providing low cost air
transportation in Europe.
A few hotels are available within walking distance from the IBMM. Optimal lodging place is hotel AERO44
(tel. +32-71313211- email : info@aero44hotel.com), within 500m from the IBMM,
on the Gosselies industrial area known as "Aeropole". It lies near the Gosselies airport. Room price is reduced to 75 €
for groups.
The IBMM building can also be reached from Brussels by a daily bus shuttle located at the Solbosh campus of the Université Libre
de Bruxelles (the shuttle leaves Brussels at 8.00 am and leaves Gosselies at 6.00 pm).
Registration
The BSMW05 will be organized with a number of participants is strictly limited to 15, and provided that a minimum of 8 participants
are registered
Prerequisites for participation are:
- A reasonable knowledge of the Unix Operating System
- Some familiarity with bioinformatics tools
- A basic knowledge of molecular biology
